There are several production and distribution companies in the film industry, the major film distributors are:
- Sony Pictures Entertainment, this was previously know as Columbia Pictures Entertainment which included Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures etc., however in 1989 Sony bought it for $3.4 billion from the Coca Cola Company. The next day Sony also purchased Guber-Peters Entertainment Company for $200 million.
- 20th Century Fox was founded in 1935 and are based in Los Angeles California, some of their biggest releases include Die Hard, Star Wars, X-Men and many more.
